A. As a PR - Practitioner it is important to follow AP style because it will allow the news releases that are prepared be easier used in important publications. AP style is the gold standard in the journalistic world, thus it is imperative to know and understand the uniqueness of AP style.
3.) How can knowing AP style help you as a PR practitioner?
A. As stated above, since AP style is the standard in the journalistic world, it is important to know the rules and regulations of AP style. AP style stickler, Arika Daniels talks of the AP style making the "reporters job easier"(http://socalprblog.com/wordpress/?p=787). I like your insight on the importance of knowing how to use AP style. It's what the journalists use, and if they aren't using our message we're not doing our job!
ReplyDeleteThis is also reflected in your last section; the job world is competitive, and if an aspiring professional doesn't know how to use one of the most important tools, they aren't going anywhere.

I agree with you that PR practitioners are truly looking for the best talent out there and not having a knowledge base that includes a vast comprehension for AP style will be serious cause for concern. You may be able to acquire a job in this field with knowing AP style but you certainly are not going to go anywhere with it.
